The Anaxes War College System represented a method employed to categorize diverse types of starships found within the galaxy. This system was utilized by entities such as the Galactic Republic, the Galactic Empire, and the First Order. Originating at the Anaxes War College during the era of the Clone Wars, the Anaxes System augmented the pre-existing method of classifying capital ships through the introduction of categories like battlecruisers, destroyers, and dreadnoughts. According to its structure, spacecraft were sorted into seven primary categories: corvettes (measuring 100-200 meters), frigates (200-400 meters), cruisers (400-600 meters), heavy cruisers (600-1,200 meters), destroyers (1,000-2,000 meters), battlecruisers (2,000-5,000 meters), and dreadnoughts (exceeding 5,000 meters). However, these delineations were not absolute, and a vessel's overall firepower and role could lead to its placement in a higher or lower category.
The classification system of the Anaxes War College was initially conceived by the author Jason Fry within the Star Wars Legends continuity, specifically for the reference book titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Incredible Vehicles, and it was later incorporated into The Essential Guide to Warfare. Its introduction into canon occurred with Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy, which was also authored by Fry.
