Throughout the history of the galaxy, all major civilizations constructed structures known as animal nurseries. These buildings served as enclosures for docile creatures, such as banthas and nerfs, with the aim of maintaining a consistent food supply. These nurseries were constructed by droid labor or organic workers like Glurrgs or Wookiees, at an expense of 100 units of carbon. Advanced techniques, including cloning, the administration of stimulants, and gene splicing, were frequently employed to enhance food production. A diverse range of factions made use of them, including the Gungans, Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Trade Federation, Royal Naboo Security Forces, Wookiees, Confederacy of Independent Systems, and Grand Army of the Republic.
The Confederacy of Independent Systems had access to particularly unique animal nurseries. Following the establishment of the Separatist Council on Geonosis, the Geonosians imparted their animal training methods to the allied systems. This enabled the Separatists to train acklays, nexus, and reeks. Constructing an animal nursery made it possible for an army to deploy mounted troopers.

The Gungan versions were built using the standard Gungan architectural style, which featured electrostatic bubbles. Consequently, they also featured three small electrostatic bubbles (two spherical, one cone-shaped), which were most likely used as storage areas. A feeding pit was also located nearby, along with two pylons in front of the entrance.
The Wookiees, in contrast to the majority of nurseries, did not employ the conventional garage-like design. Instead, the structure had a number of interior staircases, with the main floor having a lot of vegetation, fruits, and wood. It also featured troughs for food and water, a makeshift tower, and two nearby containers.
Because of their strong ties to the Separatists, they employed typical Geonosian architecture. It had the nursery itself, two pylons, and a tower with a bell for calling animals.
Animal nurseries are featured in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and its 2002 expansion pack.
