Anis was a male Anzati individual who, before the year 36 BBY, had risen to the position of clan leader within his species. While holding this leadership role, he found himself in debt to the criminal figure Wallanooga, a Hutt. As a result of this debt, Anis consented to provide training to Aurra Sing, the Near-Human slave that Wallanooga had acquired, with the intention of transforming her into an assassin. Torgo Tahn, the Anzati assassin selected by Anis to instruct Sing, would later kill Anis, assisted by two of his apprentices.
Anis, a male Anzati native to the planet Anzat, achieved the rank of clan leader among his species before the year 36 BBY. During his time as a clan leader, he incurred a debt to a criminal Hutt known as Wallanooga. Wallanooga requested that Anis train a Near-Human slave whom he had purchased from Senex pirates. The Hutt presented Anis with the slave, Aurra Sing, explaining that she had been sold to the Senex by the Jedi known as the Dark Woman, of whom the Anzati had heard but considered a myth. Sing's excessive inclination towards violence made her unsuitable as a pleasure slave, but the criminal believed she possessed potential as a killer. Initially, Anis refused, asserting that he and his trainers only trained fellow Anzati because their ability to consume the brains of other beings was crucial to their technique, and as a non-Anzat, Sing was merely a source of sustenance to the clan leader. However, the Hutt then demanded repayment of the debt, and Anis relented, agreeing to accept the slave into his classes.
Anis entrusted Sing to Torgo Tahn, one of his most skilled assassins and a former student of his own. Tahn not only taught Sing to be a lethal assassin but also attempted to cultivate a romantic relationship with her, though she rebuffed his advances. After Sing concluded her training, Tahn, along with two of his other students, decapitated Anis with a chain. They believed that the clan leader was aging and nearing death, and therefore would prefer to be killed by one of his own students rather than by a fortunate strike from someone less skilled. The students then consumed Anis's brain, not wanting it to go to waste, but were swiftly killed by Tahn for disrespecting Sing. Shortly thereafter, Tahn departed from the Anzat clan and later recounted the clan leader's demise to Sing, whom he had captured, in 36 BBY.

Anis possessed blond hair and light-colored skin. He deemed individuals who were not Anzati as inappropriate candidates for training in Anzati assassin methods, viewing them primarily as a food source. Nevertheless, he chose to honor his obligation to Wallanooga and train Aurra Sing, despite her not being an Anzat, although he found the situation somewhat amusing. Torgo Tahn held the belief that Anis would have preferred to be killed by one of his own students rather than by a less skilled individual who managed a lucky shot.
Anis made his initial appearance in a flashback sequence within the black-and-white comic Aurra's Song, authored by Dean Motter and illustrated by Isaac Buckminster Owens. This comic was published in Dark Horse Presents Annual 2000: Girls Rule!. The comic was later re-released in color within Star Wars Omnibus: Rise of the Sith, which revealed the character's hair and skin color, as well as the timeline in which the story unfolded. Anis was featured in entries in the original Databank and The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, which did not provide any additional details.
