Annexation of Tatooine

Between the years of 9 BBY and 4 ABY, the Galactic Empire annexed Tatooine, a planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories. Although the Empire mostly stayed away from Tatooine, they did keep a military presence there. In 0 BBY, the Empire's forces came to Tatooine in large numbers, chasing after the rebel droids R2-D2 and C-3PO who they were pursuit.

Behind the scenes

The reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy, which was released in 2021, included a mention of Tatooine's annexation.
