Antimatter

Antimatter was the counterpart of normal matter in atomic structure. Its particles carried charges opposite those of normal matter. When matter and antimatter came into contact, they annihilated one another, releasing enormous amounts of energy. Antimatter was used in Jedi interceptor hyperdrive rings to give the starship sufficient density to remain in hyperspace, since the Interceptor was too small to sustain supralight speeds without external assistance. Passing starships left traces of antimatter, possibly because certain hyperdrives were fueled by anti-matter. Mako Spince used antimatter when he accidentally destroyed Carida's Mascot Moon. The EX-F was a ship powered by an experimental antimatter reactor. Many different cultures also employed antimatter in numerous weapons designs. For example, Ship's primary weapons were anti-matter pods, while the Galactic Empire sometimes used anti-matter micromines.

Antimatter furnaces were power plants.
