Asp functioned as a Strike-class medium cruiser within the Galactic Empire's fleet. The Asp, along with its counterpart Eel, were tasked with engaging the MC40a light cruisers named Ta and Re. Each vessel carried TIE Avengers belonging to Avenger Squadron and Assault Gunboats sourced from Talon Squadron.
