Eel functioned as a Strike-class medium cruiser within the fleet of the Galactic Empire. The Eel, along with the Asp, were tasked with engaging the MC40a light cruisers known as Ta ([/article/ta_(mc40a_light_cruiser)]) and Re. Each vessel carried TIE Avengers belonging to Avenger Squadron, as well as Assault Gunboats from Talon Squadron.
