The Mark IV assault droid represents a quadrupedal battle droid design that saw usage by both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.
History
Initially, the Galactic Republic developed the Mark IV assault droid before the Mandalorian Wars. Subsequently, it became a prevalent droid model within the Sith Empire. The Republic employed them for automated defense, using them to patrol urban centers and military facilities. In contrast, the Sith Empire integrated these droids into their military forces, deploying them as defensive units on starships throughout their fleet and at military installations, including those found on planets such as Taris and Manaan. Although primarily used for defensive purposes, their basic programming did not hinder their ability to effectively thwart Republic boarding actions aimed at capturing Sith starships. For offensive operations, the Sith typically favored more agile units, such as Sith troopers.
Certain Mark IV droids were equipped with a spherical energy shield, significantly enhancing their resistance to ranged weaponry and lightsabers. The Ahto City Civil Authority also utilized these droids.
