Astrogation gazetteer

An astrogation gazetteer A regularly published periodical, the astrogation gazetteer (also called a galactic gazetteer) provided the astrogation data crucial for navigating between different planet locations. It documented the realspace and hyperspace coordinates of celestial objects, along with details about typical travel times. The durations listed were usually based on military vessels equipped with a Class One hyperdrive, while many civilian starcruisers used slower Class Three hyperdrives. Time estimations were expressed using d=standard days and h=standard hours.

Generally speaking, trips took longer as the distance between planets increased. However, systems that were physically close to each other sometimes required detours along alternate hyperlanes due to hazards like space junk, heavy traffic, or stellar phenomena such as the Hoth asteroid field. For example, traveling from Coruscant to Alderaan took 16 hours because the route passed through a section of the largely uncharted Deep Core. In some instances, it was possible to discover indirect routes or travel through intermediate systems in order to shorten the journey.
