In the year 3643 BBY, the vessel known as the Carida came under attack from Sith combatants. Laranna Fain, a Jedi Knight, mounted a defense of the starship, sustaining injuries during the engagement. The remaining Republic soldiers, under the command of Lieutenant Bela Whinn, requested reinforcements. Subsequently, Vivicar, a Sith Lord who was masquerading as a Jedi Master, appeared on the Carida, mended the Jedi Knight's wounds, and then infected her with the Dark Plague before his departure, which resulted in her betrayal of her fellow soldiers.
