Laranna Fain was a member of the Jedi Order, specifically a Jedi Knight, and a Human female. She was also the offspring of Duras Fain.
During the time known as the Cold War, [Duras Fain](/article/duras_fain] along with Yuon Par, Sidonie Garen, Eriz Vossan, Cin Tykan, and Parkanas Tark encountered the spirit of Terrak Morrhage, a Sith Lord whose spirit was restless and attacked them with dark powers. They managed to get away, but Parkanas was the only one who was trapped, suffering the Sith Lord's anger, which caused him to be corrupted by the dark side and develop a dark plague. Duras and the other Jedi who were with Parkanas were infected by the dark plague, which made them insane and corrupt.
Laranna was on the Republic starship called the Carida, and she was on her way to see her father when the ship was attacked by Imperial forces. During the battle, she was badly hurt, and Lieutenant Bela Whinn requested medical assistance. Soon, a Jedi Master showed up and healed Laranna, but later, she became insane and attacked the crew without mercy. It turned out that Lord Vivicar was the one who healed her, disguised as the mysterious Jedi Master, and turned her to the dark side, planning to make her his apprentice. The Jedi Council dispatched the individual who would become the future Barsen'thor of the Order to board the Carida and confront Laranna. The Jedi Consular pleaded with her to stop and promised to help her fight the darkness that had corrupted her. Laranna fought the Consular in a lightsaber duel, but she was defeated. However, Laranna used the Force to push the Jedi Consular away and fled to the airlock, intending to be sucked into space. The Jedi Consular healed Laranna from the darkness and urged her to remember the Jedi Code and her father. Laranna recited the code, as a part of her tried to resist. The Jedi Consular was successful in curing Laranna, just like her father had been, which caused Vivicar's voice to disappear. She then confined herself to the brig for the remainder of the journey.
