Attack on the Gelgelar system

The Second Battle of Gelgelar involved the Rebel Alliance successfully retrieving resources from the captured Rebel base within the Gelgelar system, which had been seized by the Imperial Navy.

The Battle

The assault was led by Rogue and Green Squadrons. Soon after the arrival of these fighter squadrons in the Gelgelar system, the Calamari Cruiser Liberty engaged the Nebulon-B2 frigate Harpy. Rogue Squadron launched a torpedo attack on the Harpy, either destroying it or forcing it to retreat, which reduced the number of weapons targeting the incoming bombers and the Liberty.

Green Squadron, flying B-wing assault fighters, then attacked the XQ5 Platform that had been left behind during the first battle, disabling its shields and ultimately rendering it inoperable.

The Victory-class Star Destroyer Stormhawk then moved to engage the Liberty, deploying its own complement of fighters. TIE/sa bombers and Assault Gunboats launched heavy torpedo attacks against the Mon Calamari warship, but Rogue Squadron successfully repelled this attack. The Stormhawk was then disabled by concentrated Rebel fire, eliminating the Empire's primary offensive threat in the system.

Following a sensor scan of the containers abandoned by the Alliance during their previous retreat from the system, performed by a Rogue T-65 X-wing starfighter, four Heavy Lifters from the flight group Weevil arrived to collect them. Once the Weevil craft jumped to hyperspace with the recovered supplies, the Liberty and the fighter squadrons withdrew from the system.

Aftermath

This triumph was essential for the Alliance, as it secured a significant amount of supplies that were previously thought to have been lost to the Imperial occupation. This ensured the continued operational capability of the Rebel Alliance within the Airam sector.
