The Assault on the Sacred Spire unfolded within the devastated remains of the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant. While engaged in an effort to establish resistance networks within the shattered capital world, the Jedi and their accompanying strike force were unexpectedly confronted by the deranged Lord Nyax, a peculiar cyborg possessing the capacity to manipulate the Force. Driven by a desire to unleash the full potential of the Force nexus contained within the sacred spire around which the Temple was built, Nyax constructed a massive device capable of penetrating the skyscrapers encircling the Temple Precinct. Employing the Force to compel civilians to operate the powerful machine, Nyax spearheaded a path through the Precinct's foundations, ultimately reaching the base of the Sacred Spire.
Concurrently, while pursuing the three Jedi, the Yuuzhan Vong, under the command of Denua Ku, stumbled upon the cyborg form of Irek Ismaren, now known as Lord Nyax. Trailing Nyax, they positioned themselves behind the three Jedi. Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker, and Tahiri Veila navigated through the debris left in the wake of the colossal machine until they arrived at the Temple Ziggurat, where they discovered the machine actively drilling through a substantial and seemingly impenetrable black wall that enclosed the Sacred Spire. Upon breaching the wall, Nyax absorbed the energies of the spire and ascended through the roof of the Temple Ziggurat.
A scene of devastation greeted them atop the Temple, where the five spires of the Jedi Council had collapsed, their fragments scattered across the area. In the place where the Temple Spire once stood, a gaping void marked Nyax's exit as he soared forth, emanating Force energies throughout the vicinity. Ku, impressed by the cyborg's formidable combat prowess, was nonetheless hurled against the shattered structures surrounding him during the battle, ultimately being impaled through the chest by a protruding rebar spar. Luke and Mara, hindered by Nyax's enhanced ability to impose his emotions upon others, were left as mere spectators as Tahiri propelled him back down through the hole, leading to his demise.
Despite Nyax's death, his malevolence had temporarily permeated the spire. Following the Jedi's departure, Jacen Solo would later visit the Temple ruins and still sense the lingering darkness. However, with the passage of time, the inherent nature of the Force facilitated the restoration of the spire to its true essence.
