Bakki Sourthol

A Human male named Bakki Sourthol, holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander, served the Alliance to Restore the Republic as both a pilot and an officer. He piloted an X-Wing as Red Leader for Reekeene's Roughnecks while operating in the Fakir sector. Sourthol occasionally collaborated with special operations and intelligence, authoring reports concerning the threats from the saboteur Yansan and the Imperial TIE Series starfighters. Known for his affable and lively nature, Sourthol was also a skilled player of sabacc.

Biography

Bakki Sourthol, a male Human, became a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic because his father's political views prohibited him from entering the Imperial Academy. A seasoned pilot, Sourthol was in command of an X-Wing Squadron in the Bakchou arm of the Fakir sector as part of Reekeene's Roughnecks. His callsign was Red Leader. He also attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander while working with Special Operations.

During his time serving with the Alliance, Sourthol identified Yansan, a Ho'Din saboteur, who was attempting to disable Rebel transports carrying several Rebels, including Sourthol himself. Yansan was stopped before the completion of his objective, but he did manage to escape. During this incident, Sourthol noticed that Yansan had a limp and favored his left leg.

In 2 ABY, due to certain events within the Tharin sector, Sourthol acquired crucial intelligence regarding other threats to the Rebel Alliance. Consequently, he was temporarily relieved of his duties in the Fakir sector to deliver a report to the Alliance High Command. Sourthol documented information about Yansan and other dangers. During this period, he also collaborated with Lieutenants Anson Blazer, Deeve and Tura Raftican, as well as Special Agent Tay Vanis.

Later on, Commander Bakki Sourthol of Red Squadron composed a concise report concerning the TIE Series of starfighters employed by the Galactic Empire. Despite being an Intelligence Report, it was not exclusively for Intel agents. Sourthol acknowledged the incompleteness of his report and suggested that Wedge Antilles create another, more in-depth report to finalize the research.

Personality and traits

Sourthol possessed a friendly, upbeat, and fearless nature, and he was a formidable Sabacc player. Furthermore, he was a skilled pilot, a perceptive Intelligence officer, and an expert in military technology. He had comprehensive knowledge of TIE technology tactics and history. When drafting a report about them, he utilized ancient military proverbs as epigraphs for certain sections.

Behind the scenes

Sourthol made his initial appearance in Star Wars Campaign Pack, which is a supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. It was originally published in 1988 and later reprinted with additional content in Classic Campaigns in 1994. He was subsequently mentioned in further role-playing supplements, including Alliance Intelligence Reports (1995). In Star Wars Campaign Pack, his hair is described as "fair," but a visual representation of Sourthol by artist Mike Vilardi in Alliance Intelligence Reports shows him with what appears to be dark hair.

Alliance Intelligence Report: TIE Fighters (released in 1996 within Star Wars Adventure Journal #10) is presented as a report authored by Sourthol, seemingly a document from the time of the Rebel Alliance. However, Sourthol mentions that Wedge Antilles' report is accessible through the Ministry of Education, implying that Sourthol's party was in control of official institutions at this point, and thus that the report was written during the era of the New Republic.
