During this time, it became part of the Nihil's pirates Occlusion Zone, which prompted the Nihil to send a force to extract payments from the inhabitants. This group was commanded by the Minister of Protection, General Abediah Viess. Upon reaching the city of Jodzia, they encountered resistance when Jodzia's mayor declined to provide the requested tribute, arguing that the Nihil's construction of the Stormwall to form the Occlusion Zone was unlawful. As a consequence, the Nihil destroyed three sections of Jodzia. Simultaneously, Melis Shryke, perceiving limitations imposed by her family, broke into her family's storage and used the contents to pay the Nihil, simultaneously requesting membership. Viess granted Shryke's desire.
