The Baobab Merchant Fleet existed long before the Galactic Empire came to power, and was known as one of the best trading organizations in the galaxy. The Baobab family leveraged their influence to create the Baobab Archives, a large collection of knowledge.
Notably, the Bocce language was created for use within the Baobab Merchant Fleet, as the organization employed numerous alien species and needed a shared language to communicate.
Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Baobabs faced difficulties as they tried to keep their fleet from being taken over by the Empire, similar to what happened to the once-mighty Trade Federation. The Baobab family was apprehensive about Mungo Baobab inheriting the business, fearing he would lead them to destruction. However, he surprisingly led both the fleet and the Baobab family to fame by discovering the lost Roonstones.
Numerous members of the Baobab family, including Mungo and Ebenn Q3 Baobab, at one time or another, held ownership of the fleet.
The emblem of the Baobab Merchant Fleet featured a stylized family crest intersected by a pair of rainbow comets.
