Battle in the Turkana system

The clash within the Turkana system marked an offensive maneuver by the Rebellion targeting the Empire's corvette, the Talon, situated in proximity to Turkana. This operation represented the inaugural assignment for Keyan Farlander. The Rebel forces successfully seized the corvette along with a highly classified Imperial document.

Background

Rebel Intelligence operatives discerned that the Galactic Empire was deliberately downplaying the significance of the Talon, suggesting that its cargo was of considerable value, though the exact nature of this cargo, be it information or a person, remained uncertain. Furthermore, it was known that Darth Vader was in transit, raising the possibility of his presence on board. Intelligence also revealed that the vessel was en route to Celanon City with a minimal crew and escort, with a scheduled brief stop near Turkana.

The Confrontation

Talon comes under attack from Rebel forces.

The Rebel Alliance assembled a combat team to assault the vessel. Spearheading the assault was the Nebulon-B frigate named Liberator, bolstered by X-wing starfighters from both Red and Blue Squadrons, and Y-wing bombers belonging to Gold Squadron. Among the participants were Captain Charger and Cadet Keyan Farlander, who was embarking on his initial mission as a wingman to Lieutenant Hamo Blastwell within Red Squadron.

Farlander boarding the Talon

While Blue Squadron's X-wings provided support to the Liberator in battling defending TIE Fighters, the Y-wings employed their ion cannons to render the Talon inoperable. Subsequently, a Storm Unit boarded the ship, with Red Squadron safeguarding their transport vessel from any TIE fighters that managed to evade Blue Squadron. Upon requiring an additional R2 unit, Storm Unit requested assistance from any available pilots. As Storm Unit engaged in combat with defending stormtroopers, Farlander and his astromech advanced towards the bridge, where they deactivated the remaining turbolaser batteries and initiated the downloading of data from the ship's central computer. Furthermore, he confiscated disks from the Imperial officer in command who was attempting to destroy them, killing the officer in the process, prior to evacuating the ship.

To facilitate a swift departure before the arrival of Imperial reinforcements, the Rebels abandoned the Talon at its location.

Consequences

Despite Vader's absence, the retrieved documents proved to be of significant value. These documents encompassed a copy of the highly confidential Imperial document entitled Technical Specifications: Spacecraft of the Imperium and the Rebel Alliance, which detailed the specifications of both Imperial and Rebel spacecraft, thereby providing the Rebels with crucial insights into the enemy's strengths and weaknesses.

Following the mission, Keyan Farlander was received by Admiral Gial Ackbar and Mon Mothma, who promoted him to the rank of lieutenant in recognition of his bravery during the mission, which occurred a mere thirteen days after his enlistment with the Rebellion.

A simplified representation of the mission was later adapted into a holosimulation for the purpose of training aspiring pilots.
