During the conflict with the Jedi Order, in a war, the Sith forces seized the planet of Coruscant, which served as the capital world for the Galactic Republic. While they occupied the world, the Sith erected a shrine atop a sacred spire, which was a potent light side vergence situated on the planet.
The Jedi initiated a siege against the shrine, ultimately reducing it to ashes and vanquishing the Sith forces present. In time, the Four Masters decided to build a temple on the shrine's previous location, with the intent of containing the dark energy that flowed from the now-corrupted vergence, and to symbolically inter the Sith's impact.
