The three-sided Battle of Moorja involved forces loyal to the Imperial Advisors, the renegade Moff named Utoxx Prentioch, and a small contingent supporting the New Republic. The primary objective for the Imperial factions was to secure a reconnaissance document detailing the Core Worlds, which was compiled by the Black Curs. Conversely, the New Republic's goal was to deliver this very report to the New Republic Intelligence Service.
In the six months following the Battle of Endor, forces aligned with the Imperial Advisors within the Core Worlds were actively pursuing the Black Curs, a mercenary group that had been discovered conducting extensive reconnaissance for the New Republic. This chase culminated in the Moorja system, where Dirk Harkness, the leader of the Black Curs, had hidden a Y-wing in hopes of using it to escape.
However, the two Imperial-class Star Destroyers under the command of Imperial Advisor Bregius Golthan were not the only ones after the Black Curs. Moff Utoxx Prentioch, a self-proclaimed heir to the Imperial throne and a rogue Warlord, also desired to capture the Black Curs. His intention was to exploit their reconnaissance report for his own purposes. Consequently, two Imperial-class Star Destroyers belonging to Prentioch's forces launched an attack on Goltan's ships within the system.
While the four Star Destroyers exchanged fire and their respective TIE fighters engaged in aerial combat, the Last Chance, carrying the Black Curs, was struck by a turbolaser and crash-landed on the planet's surface. At this crucial moment, a small team sent by General Airen Cracken arrived in the system to provide assistance to the Black Curs. After engaging some of the Imperial forces, the operatives landed on the planet and successfully reached the Black Curs before the Imperials could. By providing the mercenaries with enough time to repair their ship, they facilitated their escape from the system, successfully evading the warring Imperial factions.
A portion of the reconnaissance report that was the subject of this battle was later published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 2 under the title Recon & Report: The Journey to Coruscant.
