Battle of Pesitiin

The clash known as the Battle of Pesitiin occurred during the Caamas Document Crisis. Moff Vilim Disra masterminded this event to sabotage Admiral Gilad Pellaeon's planned peace negotiations with the New Republic. The battle involved Pellaeon's flagship, the Chimaera, against several vessels from the Cavrilhu Pirates, who Disra had hired. Disra's scheme aimed to make Pellaeon believe that General Garm Bel Iblis, whom he had tried to contact for talks, dispatched the pirate ships, signaling the New Republic's disinterest in a peace agreement.

The battle

As Pellaeon awaited Bel Iblis in the isolated Pesitiin system, Cavrilhu warships bearing Corellian Defense Force markings warped into the system. These vessels then arranged themselves into an offensive posture, overlapping their ray shields for enhanced protection, while leaving their particle shielding vulnerable. Immediately, Pellaeon suspected the fleet's true allegiance. He allowed the "Corellian" ships to execute two attack runs against the Chimaera, hoping the Computerized Combat Predictor could analyze their combat methods and expose their real identity.

Subsequently, Pellaeon initiated the next phase of his strategy, employing his Preybird fighters and the Chimaera's proton torpedo launchers in a variant of the A-wing Slash maneuver. The Preybirds advanced toward the enemy's Kaloth Battlecruiser in a parade formation, with a barrage of proton torpedoes following the same trajectory. The Preybirds then dispersed in a saggery-blossom pattern. As the battlecruiser's gunners tried to target the fighters, the torpedoes struck its bow, resulting in the ship's destruction. Some torpedoes exploded prematurely, inflicting heavy damage on a Corellian Gunship.

Aftermath

The ease with which the enemy fleet fell for the A-wing Slash, a tactic conceived by Bel Iblis himself, convinced Pellaeon that the Corellian General was not responsible for the attack. Instead, someone opposed to the peace talks wanted Pellaeon to believe it was him. Consequently, Pellaeon resolved to remain at Pesitiin and await Bel Iblis. Although Bel Iblis never arrived at Pesitiin, another prominent New Republic official eventually did.
