Battle of Turcan III

The conflict known as the Battle of Turcan III transpired during the Galactic Civil War and unfolded on the world of Turcan III. Although the Galactic Empire emerged victorious, this particular engagement catapulted Churhee's Riflemen to widespread renown, establishing them as celebrated figures within the Rebellion.

Background

In their initial years, Churhee's Riflemen routinely undertook missions for the Galactic Empire within the Parmel and Sarin sectors.

This arrangement underwent a significant shift following a mission conducted on Y'Trella. During this operation, the unit found themselves trapped and without support, having been abandoned by the Imperial forces who had pledged to provide assistance. The vast majority of the Riflemen were killed, including their founder, Vlaydm Churhee, who was among the dead.

After the disaster that occurred on Y'Trella, the survivors regrouped on Turcan III, now under the leadership of Vlaydm's widow, Maydla Churhee. Over the subsequent months, Maydla Churhee rebuilt the organization, transforming it into a staunchly anti-Imperial force. From that point forward, Churhee's Riflemen exclusively accepted contracts that opposed the Empire, forming an alliance with the Rebel Alliance. The Riflemen's exceptional marksmanship skills made them a persistent problem for the Empire, particularly within the Parmel sector.

The Combat

Over a period of several weeks, Churhee's Riflemen assisted local Alliance ground forces in their struggle against the Empire on Turcan III. The Riflemen became such a major annoyance to the Empire that Moff Tallis of the Parmel sector ultimately dedicated an entire Naval line to reinforce the Imperial battlegroup already stationed on the planet.

Bolstered by these additional resources, the Empire initiated a large-scale military offensive on Turcan III. More than half of the Riflemen were killed during a rearguard action designed to delay the Imperial advance, providing the Rebels with sufficient time to evacuate the planet. In stark contrast to the events on Y'Trella, the surviving Riflemen were successfully evacuated by the Alliance aboard the final transport to depart.

Consequences

Despite the Empire's triumph, Churhee's Riflemen were hailed as heroes of the Rebellion. While they already enjoyed a significant reputation in the Parmel and Sarin sectors, they now achieved legendary status. Their actions during the Battle of Turcan III earned the group galaxywide recognition, leading to a rapid influx of new recruits.

Subsequently, the Rebel Alliance, and later the New Republic, consistently provided Churhee's Riflemen with high-paying, exclusive assignments, partly to capitalize on the propaganda benefits of having the Riflemen associated with their cause.
