Battle of Vinzen Neela 5

The conflict known as the Battle of Vinzen Neela 5 transpired during the era of the Galactic Civil War, specifically in the vicinity of Vinzen Neela 5.

Lead-Up to the Conflict

Following the successful departure of the Cargo Ferries group Sela, the subsequent objective involved a planned meeting between Sela and the Escort Carrier named Hininbirg. This rendezvous was intended to facilitate a transfer operation in the space surrounding Vinzen Neela 5. Imperial fighter pilots were tasked with ensuring the area was clear of enemy ships as the Carrier Hininbirg received advanced TIE/D Defender prototypes from the Sela ferries. Imperial Intelligence uncovered information about a Rebel scheme aimed at disrupting the transfer. In response, Imperial starfighters were dispatched ahead of the convoy to neutralize the anticipated Rebel threat. Agents belonging to the Secret Order of the Emperor alerted at least one pilot en route to the battle about a potential "leak" originating from Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin's research facility. The Order sought additional information to identify the source of this leak and requested that Rebel starships be inspected for any clues that might help determine its origin.

The Engagement

TIE Avengers from the unit known as Alpha Squadron emerged from hyperspace, positioned ahead of both Sela and Hininbirg. They discovered the Rebel CR90 corvettes Mar Duun and Vop Hui located several kilometers away, in the process of deploying a minefield. Rebel A-wing and Y-wing starfighters were also present in the system and were quickly engaged by the arriving TIE Avengers. Imperial starfighters prioritized attacking the Y-wings from Blue Squadron, focusing on eliminating the more dangerous bomber-type vessels. As the opposing starfighters clashed, the Hininbirg and Sela arrived to commence their transfer operations. As anticipated, Rebel forces had strategically positioned themselves to attack the Escort Carrier Hininbirg, having emerged within a minefield and within firing range of the enemy corvette's weaponry. Avengers from Alpha Squadron were redirected to defend the Hininbirg from the attacking Rebel starships, after successfully destroying the Y-wings from Blue Squadron. After determining that the corvette Vop Hui was only carrying mines, the TIE Avengers destroyed it with a barrage of concussion missiles and laser fire, thus protecting the Hininbirg from its assault.

While Imperial starfighters continued to defend the Hininbirg, the transfer of TIE Defender prototypes from their cargo containers to the Carrier Hininbirg began. T-65 X-wing starfighters belonging to Red Squadron arrived to reinforce the Rebel forces, just as the Cargo Ferries Sela departed the system, their mission completed. Avengers from Alpha Squadron destroyed the remaining Type A Mines and the corvette Mar Dun before engaging the incoming X-wing fighters. With Rebel fighters having managed to weaken the shields of the Hininbirg, the Avengers faced a race against time. The Hininbirg had successfully loaded all the TIE Defender prototypes and was now only awaiting the jump to lightspeed. Rebel fighters inflicted minor damage to the hull of the Carrier Hininbirg before being destroyed by TIE pilots.

The Result

Emperor Palpatine expressed that Zaarin was lucky that the TIE Defenders made it to Coruscant safely, and questioned the security lapse. Darth Vader responded that Zaarin was already investigating the matter, and that he suspected the Rebels had new weapon technology. The Secret Order then began to analyze the data that Stele gathered from the two corvettes, hoping to find some clue about the mole.
