During the Galactic Civil War era, on the homeworld of Vorzyd V, a male Vorzydiak named Bemmie was a member of the Freelies, a youthful gang. In 1 ABY, the Freelies plotted to abduct Rebel leader Leia Organa for a large ransom, but Bemmie was apprehended and tortured by Imperial forces, who also sought the Princess. Luke Skywalker, Organa's friend, rescued Bemmie, who, feeling indebted, aided Skywalker and Organa in evading the Imperials, an action that led to the young Vorzydiak's death.
Bemmie, a male Vorzydiak, hailed from the Outer Rim world of Vorzyd V, also known as "the Gambler's World." By the year 1 ABY, Bemmie had joined the Freelies, a gang of juvenile delinquents led by a Human named Jax. One evening, Bemmie and his companions stumbled upon two valuable-looking droids wandering alone: C-3PO, a protocol droid, and R2-D2, an astromech droid, were trying to locate their master, Rebel leader Luke Skywalker, and his ally Princess Leia Organa, who had been captured by the Empire. Although the gang tried to seize the droids, R2-D2 managed to summon a police droid, which drove the Freelies away.

However, after the Freelies entered a weapons shop intending to commit a crime, Bemmie and his associates encountered the same droids once more. The droids were testing automatic defensive weapons, which malfunctioned and damaged the store, convincing the Freelies to keep their distance. Instead, they followed the droids to a starship, where the gang did more than just steal droids. Bemmie and his friends tricked C-3PO into letting them aboard, kidnapped Leia Organa, and stole R2-D2, demanding five million credits in exchange for the Princess's safe return to the Alliance. However, Bemmie was separated from his gang and captured by Imperial stormtroopers under the command of Blackhole, an Imperial Intelligence agent pursuing Skywalker and Organa. The stormtroopers tortured Bemmie with a mind probe, exceeding his willpower. Just as he was about to reveal Organa's location, Skywalker arrived and captured the Imperial troops.
Grateful for his freedom, Bemmie guided Skywalker and C-3PO back to the Freelies' hideout, with the droid carrying the injured Vorzydiak. Despite Bemmie's vouching for Skywalker, Jax intended to eliminate the Rebels and prepared to execute Skywalker. However, another squad of stormtroopers suddenly arrived and stormed the Freelies' den, interrupting their confrontation. Skywalker joined the Freelies in the ensuing firefight, but they were soon surrounded. Feeling indebted to Skywalker for saving his life, Bemmie decided to repay him by leading him, Organa, and the droids to their secret "hidey-hole" to help them escape. As they reached the hidden pathway, the group was attacked by troopers, and Bemmie was struck by an Imperial blaster bolt and killed while covering their escape. Vowing to avenge Bemmie's death, Skywalker and his friends escaped Vorzyd V thanks to his assistance.
Bemmie, a member of a criminal youth gang on Vorzyd V, lived a life of crime on his homeworld's streets. However, he found himself torn between his loyalty to the Freelies and his debt to Luke Skywalker for saving his life. Despite previously participating in Jax's schemes, Bemmie disobeyed the Freelies' leader to help Skywalker and his friends escape the firefight with the Imperials, which ultimately led to his demise.
Bemmie's sole appearance in the Star Wars Legends continuity was in Gambler's World, a comic strip story arc written and illustrated by Russ Manning and published in 1979. Initially, Merf, another Vorzydian, was mistakenly identified as Bemmie, but this error was corrected later in the story.
