Benedict Vidkun was an engineer, dominated by his wife, who toiled in the sewers of Imperial City on the planet Coruscant.
At the Imperial Complex, Vidkun was employed as an engineer. A significant portion of Vidkun's meager earnings were spent by his younger wife on extravagant purchases. Lair and Daiv were his two brothers-in-law. He served as a contact for Dash Rendar, who accompanied Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca on a mission to rescue Leia Organa from Prince Xizor. They compensated him for information and sewer schematics leading to Xizor's Palace, and also hired him to unlock the grates and disarm the electrical failsafe. Due to a lack of trust, they prohibited Vidkun from contacting his wife before their departure and forbade him from carrying a blaster in the sewers, fearing he might betray them.

He guided the group through the sewer system, ultimately reaching the exterior of the Palace's recycling chamber. After handing them a key and preparing to leave, Lando insisted that he remain with them and await their return.
Following a brief dispute, Vidkun retrieved a concealed blaster and shot Dash, wounding him in the hip. Dash immediately retaliated, fatally shooting Vidkun between the eyes.

The Shadows of the Empire novel, comic, and sourcebook portray Vidkun as a diminutive, goblin-like individual. Conversely, the Topps Shadows of the Empire trading cards created by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt depict Rendar shooting Vidkun, where Vidkun, viewed from behind, appears as an average-height, well-built man.
Benedict Vidkun, identified as a traitorous individual, shares his name with two infamous historical figures, whose names are now synonymous with treachery: Benedict Arnold, an officer during the American Revolutionary War who betrayed the Continental Army to the British, causing his name to become an epithet for a traitor in the United States; and Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian politician whose collaboration with the Germans during their occupation of Norway in World War II led to his surname becoming a synonym for "traitor" in numerous languages.
