Berl was a pilot serving the Rebel Alliance. This male Human flew an X-wing starfighter and was under the leadership of Luke Skywalker. Following the Battle of Hoth, Berl, along with fellow Rebel pilot Cinda Tarheel, accompanied Skywalker as wingmen on a mission to Serphidi. The Rebel's intelligence division had discovered that King S'Shah, the Serphidian monarch, was in communication with the Galactic Empire. The aim of the Rebels' mission was to remove King S'Shah from power before the Empire could create a permanent base on Serphidi. Soon after they landed their starfighters, the pilots encountered multiple Serp warriors wielding lances and riding lizard-like creatures, and Berl lost his life in the battle that followed.
David Michelinie and Michael Fleisher wrote Berl's appearance in Star Wars (1977) 64, with illustrations by Joe Brozowski, which was published in 1982.
