Star Wars 64: Serphidian Eyes marks the sixty-fourth entry in the Marvel Star Wars comic book saga.
Leia Organa, the Princess, uncovers information indicating that S'Shah, the King of Serphidi, is in negotiations with the Galactic Empire to permit the construction of an Imperial military installation on his planet. Consequently, she dispatches Luke Skywalker, Cinda Tarheel, and Berl to Serphidi for the purpose of intelligence gathering.
As the Rebel pilots approach the Belial system, a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters emerges from the shadow of Serphidi and launches an assault. One of these fighters inflicts damage upon Captain Tarheel's S-foils, causing her to execute a forced landing on a planetary mesa. Skywalker and Berl accompany her descent to ensure her well-being.
After confirming Tarheel's survival, the Rebels are surprised by the arrival of several Serps who are mounted on substantial reptilian creatures. One of the Serps discharges an energy blast from a lance, resulting in Berl's death. Captain Tarheel is incapacitated and subsequently taken into custody. The Serps escort her back to King S'Shah's fortress.
Luke attempts to monitor their progression, but his attention is diverted when he observes a carnivorous plant creature attacking an elderly Serp named Elglih. He rescues Elglih and escorts him to his residence in Harmony Glade. Luke discovers that Elglih remains loyal to the Rebel Alliance and desires S'Shah's removal from power. The only lawful method of deposing S'Shah, however, involves participation in a contest known as a Doom-Joust. Elglih offers to engage in the potentially lethal games and designates Luke as his squire. Although Luke is initially reluctant, he ultimately consents.
On the scheduled day of the Doom-Joust, Elglih recognizes his physical inability to defeat the more powerful King S'Shah. Luke volunteers to compete in Elglih's stead and openly challenges S'Shah. During the competition, Luke successfully unseats the monarch from his reptilian mount. However, S'Shah produces a weapon called a micro-jolt and prepares to target Skywalker while his attention is directed elsewhere. Elglih alerts Luke to the danger, and the young Jedi quickly turns and fires his energy lance, killing S'Shah.
Elglih ascends to become the new ruler of the Serp people and pledges to prevent Imperial influence from encroaching upon Serphidi. Captain Tarheel is released from the castle's imprisonment, and the two pilots journey back to the Rebel base located on Arbra.
