Vincent Joseph Colletta, born on October 15, 1923 and passing away on June 3, 1991, was a seasoned Marvel Comics artist. He contributed to numerous projects as both a penciller and inker, including a single issue of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series. Colletta gained prominence primarily for his inking skills and his signature, bold line-style, which made him a highly sought-after figure in the comic book industry.
Colletta's career in comics started in 1952 as a penciller. He mainly worked on romance comics for various publishers, such as Archie Comics, Charlton Comics, and Atlas Comics. During the 1960s, he shifted his focus to superhero comics, primarily as an inker, including work on the Marvel comic Daredevil. It was around this period that he first collaborated with penciller Jack Kirby. Together, they spent six years working on Journey into Mystery, which starred Thor.
In the 1970s, when Kirby made the move to DC Comics, Colletta followed suit. The pair continued their collaborative efforts on multiple projects, including Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen and The New Gods. Additionally, he served as the regular inker for Wonder Woman from 1973 until 1980. Colletta was appointed as DC's art director in 1976, a position he maintained until 1979. He continued to work as an inker on diverse projects for both Marvel and DC until the late 1980s.
