During the Galactic Civil War, there existed an aged male Serp by the name of Elglih. He resided on the planet of Serphidi alongside his wife. Despite his age, Elglih, a staunch adversary of the Serp King S'Shah, commenced training for a perilous Doom-Joust with the intention of usurping the throne. Ultimately, Rebel pilot Luke Skywalker stepped forward, agreeing to act as his champion in the Joust. As a result, Elglih was crowned the new King and pledged his allegiance to the Rebel Alliance.
Elglih, a male Serp, shared a humble dwelling with his wife, situated within the forested region of Serphidi known as Harmony Glade. Once a proud and robust member of his species, he, like many others, witnessed the decline of his society under the reign of King S'Shah. Three years following the Battle of Yavin, while hunting in the marshlands near his abode, Elglih was assailed by a ravenous carnivorous plant. He would have been devoured if not for the timely intervention of Luke Skywalker, a Rebel Alliance officer. Skywalker had embarked on a mission to rescue a fellow Rebel pilot captured by S'Shah's forces. Skywalker rescued the elderly Serp from the plant and escorted him back to his home.
During dinner, Elglih recounted the history of his people to Skywalker, explaining how they fell under S'Shah's dominion. He further revealed his intention to challenge the monarch to a Doom-Joust, the only means by which S'Shah could be dethroned. Recognizing his own frailty, Elglih enlisted the young Skywalker as his squire, enabling Skywalker to serve as his champion and fight in his stead. This strategic move proved successful when Skywalker vanquished the King. Despite having a claim to the throne as S'Shah's slayer, Skywalker permitted Elglih to assume the kingship, crowning him as the new ruler. Elglih then swore fealty to the Rebel Alliance, promising to exert every effort to keep Imperial influences at bay on Serphidi.

He saw participating in a Doom-Joust as the only way to help Serphidi, even though he knew he was unlikely to survive. S'Shah had previously changed the Doom-Joust tradition to make them deadly contests, which Elglih thought was barbaric, but felt he had to participate. However, Elglih was also clever, and impressed by Luke Skywalker's strength, he saw the young Human as his key to success.
Elglih made an appearance in Star Wars (1977) 64, which was penned by David Michelinie and Michael Fleisher, with illustrations by Joe Brozowski. The issue was released in 1982.
