Star Wars 65: Golrath Never Forgets marks the sixty-fifth installment of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series.
Luke Skywalker faces a trial concerning the accidental death of Captain Shira Brie. A compact judicial body, with Princess Leia, General Rieekan, and General Duron Veertag presiding, scrutinizes the evidence gathered over the preceding days. Their conclusion exonerates Skywalker, finding him not guilty of any accusations. Consequently, he is reinstated to his former position in the fleet, holding the rank of commander.
Subsequently, a pilot by the name of Gemmer voices his concerns about the persistent, light-sensitive images emanating from a piece of rock he acquired as a souvenir from the former Golrath base, which are disrupting his sleep. Captain Thorben instructs Gemmer to hand over the rock to the Rebel leadership for examination. Upon inspection, they discover that the unique mineral composition of the volcanic planet captures and projects light images of its surroundings as holograms once cooled. Aware that the Imperials have recently seized control of Golrath, they fear that this geological anomaly could reveal the location of their current base on Arbra. Leia makes the decision to personally spearhead an expedition to Golrath with the aim of eliminating any trace elements that could potentially aid the Galactic Empire in locating the fleet.
Golrath Station is under the command of Lieutenant Mils Giel, who was recently demoted. He quickly becomes aware of the planet's remarkable geological properties when two stormtroopers report witnessing images of a Rebel training exercise. Giel promptly sends a message to Darth Vader and orders a squadron of TIE fighters to defend the base in anticipation of the Rebels' return.
Two aerial groups consisting of X-wing and BTL Y-wing starfighters converge upon Golrath. They engage a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters, resulting in an intense aerial confrontation. Princess Leia skillfully navigates her Y-wing through the chaotic dogfight and descends into the clouds above Golrath. Utilizing a parabelt rocket harness, she flies toward the old base.
Leia infiltrates the factory complex and proceeds directly to the reactor core, intending to overload it and cause the base to explode. Giel intercepts her and initiates gunfire, forcing Leia to seek refuge behind nearby crates. Giel seals off all exits and personally activates the overload switches. Despite the base's potential value to the Empire, Giel recognizes that eliminating the leader of the Rebel Alliance holds even greater significance, even if it means sacrificing his own life. Leia manages to divert Giel's attention by activating her rocket harness, creating an opportunity to escape from the reactor room. He pursues her outside but is unable to prevent her escape. She contacts Lando Calrissian in a Y-wing, who picks her up at a designated rendezvous point.
Giel is consumed by anger due to his failure. In a fit of pique, he fires a shot from his blaster at a passing X-wing fighter before boarding his own Imperial troop transport. Giel evacuates the base moments before it explodes. As fate would have it, the targeted ship belongs to Luke Skywalker, and the blaster shot inflicts sufficient damage to Luke's engines, preventing him from rejoining the fleet. As the remaining ships jump into hyperspace, Luke is left behind, facing an approaching squadron of TIE fighters.
