Star Wars 66: The Water Bandits is the sixty-sixth installment of the Marvel Star Wars comic book saga.
After his X-wing sustains damage, Luke Skywalker is compelled to make an emergency landing on the remote planet of Beheboth. He then makes his way to a moisture farm settlement situated within the Garrotine region. While attempting to trade for provisions at a local tavern, Luke finds himself in a confrontation with local agriculturalists who mistake him for one of theives. A woman, Darial Anglethorn, intervenes and diffuses the situation. She pulls Luke aside and informs him that marauding groups of bandits have been pilfering their valuable water reserves. Luke offers his assistance, and Darial hires him to be her protector. She escorts Luke to her moisture farm, which is defended by a massive fortified wall.
During the night, all of Darial's farmhands, including Luke, mysteriously lose consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, they discover that their moisture vaporators have been wrecked and Darial has disappeared. Luke pledges to investigate her vanishing and embarks on a journey across the dry deserts and mountainous terrains.
Eventually, he stumbles upon the brigands' base of operations, which is led by a pirate known as Gideon Longspar. Longspar's henchmen ambush Luke and escort him into the main throne room. Gideon reveals that he has taken Darial prisoner and has plundered all of the water resources from her farm. He holds captive an alien being called Tirrith. The Tirrith being exists as a conscious mystical energy force and functions as a collective consciousness. Longspar has captured one half of the being and threatens to obliterate it, unless the other half agrees to assist him. The Tirrith has been sabotaging the moisture vaporators during the night, transforming the ambient air's moisture into a poisonous gas. This is how Gideon has been able to subdue people, enabling his bandits to steal the water.
Luke succeeds in freeing Darial and outwits Longspar, who is wielding Luke's lightsaber, into destroying the containment unit that holds the imprisoned Tirrith particles. The Tirrith then suggest that they destroy the base's water storage tanks in order to create a diversion for the approaching guards. Despite being hesitant to waste the precious water, Darial complies, allowing her and Luke to escape the stronghold while the guards are washed away.
Grateful for their help, the Tirrith ascend into the atmosphere and imbue the clouds with electrostatic energy, generating a much-needed rainfall on Beheboth.
