Beheboth, situated in the Outer Rim Territories' Sanbra sector, was a planet of arid landscapes. It was the original habitat of the Tirrith, a distinctive group of empathic gaseous beings with a collective consciousness. These sentient organisms flourished despite the harsh, dry conditions. During the Republic period, Bothans, and later Humans, established settlements on Beheboth, creating moisture farms and small settlements across the terrain. In the Imperial Period, the planet's developing economy faced a major challenge from brigands who used the Tirrith to assist them in attacking local moisture farms. This threat was eliminated by Rebel hero Luke Skywalker and local leader Darial Anglethorn, who subsequently became Beheboth's first representative in the New Republic Senate.

Beheboth, a remote world of desert regions, was positioned along a branch of the Hydian Way between Arbra and Golrath. Water was a precious and scarce commodity on this planet. Located as the fifth planet within its system in the Sanbra sector of the Outer Rim's, Beheboth was accompanied by three moons. Characterized by scorching days and freezing nights, Beheboth featured expansive, arid plains and notable rock formations, including extensive caves and mountain ranges. The limited surface water available originated from a few brackish natural springs and shallow lakes, and the planet was often affected by alkaline and salt dust storms.
Despite its harsh environment, Beheboth served as the homeworld for an extraordinary sentient species called the Tirrith. These empathic gaseous entities, forming a hive mind, possessed significant power when united. The Tirrith had the capability to influence Beheboth's atmosphere, and in 3 ABY, their seeding of the planet's clouds resulted in the first rainfall in centuries. This event led to a small resurgence in some resilient plant life, primarily in the mountains, and an increase in animal populations. The planet's deserts were inhabited by sand lice, which frequently contaminated settlers' food supplies.
The initial settlers of Beheboth were Bothans during the Republic era. However, they were gradually replaced by Humans who scattered moisture farms across the limited landscape. These settlers developed a fragile economy based on basic agriculture, smuggling, and other illicit activities. Although officially part of the Republic and later annexed by the Galactic Empire, Beheboth was considered an insignificant world with minimal influence on galactic politics. It was represented by Coruscant-based regional officials who rarely visited the planet. In 3 ABY, a criminal named Gideon Longspar discovered how to manipulate the native Tirrith, enlisting their aid in raids on numerous moisture farms. He stole all the water and resold it at exorbitant prices on the black market, a scheme exacerbated by the planet's prolonged drought.

As many locals faced dire circumstances, Darial Anglethorn, the owner of the planet's largest moisture farm, assumed a leadership position. She organized defense efforts and managed the distribution of water to those in need. During the height of the raids, Luke Skywalker, a pilot from the Rebel Alliance, was compelled to land on Beheboth after his X-wing sustained damage during a raid on nearby Golrath. Skywalker soon met Anglethorn, who recruited him to assist in defending against Longspar's brigands. After Anglethorn's farm was attacked and she was kidnapped, Skywalker launched an assault on Longspar's mountain fortress. He ultimately gained the support of the vengeful Tirrith, who helped free Anglethorn and defeat Longspar's gang. In gratitude, the Tirrith seeded Beheboth's clouds, initiating a much-needed rainfall.
Following the defeat of the water bandits, Rebel and later New Republic forces maintained a presence on the planet to prevent further exploitation of the Tirrith. The Tirrith quickly returned to their secluded ways and declined requests to produce more rain. Despite this, the rainfall led to a modest revival of native plant and animal life and a period of economic growth, although a subsequent prolonged drought threatened these gains within a few years. In 7 ABY, Anglethorn was appointed as Beheboth's inaugural representative to the New Republic Senate, a position she held while continuing to manage her moisture farm and investigate crimes as the elected peacekeeper of Prosperity. The New Republic also established a presence on Beheboth, creating an outpost in Longspar's former mountain stronghold.
In 8 ABY, Anglethorn uncovered another attempt to manipulate the Tirrith, this time by Mils Giel, a disgraced former admiral of the Imperial forces. Giel had settled on Beheboth after suffering a major defeat on nearby Golrath. After investigating the suspicious death of a former farm worker named Berl Matoone, Anglethorn discovered a connection to Giel. Sensing the significance of her discovery, she requested assistance from her friend Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight. Skywalker arrived on Beheboth in time to save Anglethorn's life during a dangerous pursuit involving Giel, and he revealed the former officer's scheme to weaponize the Tirrith and use them to regain his status within the Imperial hierarchy. Giel used the Tirrith to eliminate the New Republic personnel at their mountain outpost, but he was forced to flee Beheboth after being exposed by Skywalker and Anglethorn.

It was presumed that Beheboth lacked native sentient life until the Tirrith were discovered in 3 ABY. Although settlers had previously observed Tirrith hives, they were only regarded as unusual chemical phenomena in Beheboth's atmosphere. However, the Tirrith were actually a highly intelligent and potent collective entity with the ability to alter the chemical composition of the planet's atmosphere. Their reclusive and pacifistic nature, however, isolated them from the wider planetary community. During the Galactic Civil War, Beheboth was considered sparsely populated, but it did support a community of sentient beings beyond the native Tirrith cultures, many of whom were moisture farmers and their employees.
While the total population of Beheboth was around 17 million, over 99 percent of that number comprised the Tirrith. The planet's Human colonists, who replaced the original Bothan settlers, never exceeded 60,000-80,000 individuals. Many of the Humans native to Beheboth displayed cosmetic mutations compared to baseline Humans, such as purple skin, additional eyebrows, or missing fingers, although they were otherwise anatomically similar to the rest of their species. Although the cause of these distinctions was unknown by the New Republic era, anthropologists speculated that it was due to the relatively restricted gene pool, combined with the planet's alkaline and salt dust storms. The raids by Gideon Longspar's brigands placed these settlers in significant danger in 3 ABY, leading to widespread distrust and frequent hostility towards perceived outsiders.
Despite the often inhospitable nature of the desert planet Beheboth, several thriving desert towns developed among the moisture farms that sustained Beheboth's economy, including Garrotine. These towns served as the center of Beheboth's society, as the planet lacked a larger government, with authority residing in the individual town councils. Some of these towns experienced considerable growth after the Tirrith brought rain to the planet in 3 ABY—Garrotine, renamed "Prosperity," evolved into a bustling town with over a dozen cantinas within just five years. However, these towns remained largely as rough frontier communities, with very few licensed doctors practicing on the planet by 8 ABY.
Beheboth was first introduced as the setting in Star Wars (1977) 66, which was written by David Michelinie, illustrated by Walt Simonson, and released in 1982. Further important details about the planet were provided in the 2003 Wizards of the Coast article Beheboth: Blood and Water, authored by Cory J. Herndon.
