Walter Simonson

Walter "Walt" Simonson, a comic book creator born on September 2, 1946, frequently worked as a penciller, writer, and cover artist for the Marvel Star Wars comic book series. Simonson began his professional career in the early 1970s at DC Comics, where he drew war stories. He then collaborated with writer Archie Goodwin to create the critically acclaimed Manhunter backup story in Detective Comics. Before regularly penciling Star Wars, he partnered with Goodwin on a single issue to co-create Beilert Valance, a character beloved by fans, in The Hunter. In 1981, he took over as the primary penciller, collaborating with writer David Michelinie to develop characters like Shira Brie and Plif, as well as concepts such as the talking bomb. After his time on Star Wars, he started writing and illustrating The Mighty Thor for Marvel Comics, which is arguably his most recognized work. He also collaborated with his wife, writer Louise Simonson, on the successful Marvel series X-Factor.

Simonson's character Wald, who appeared in Marvel Star Wars #60, bears a striking resemblance to the creator himself.
