Star Wars (1977) 55

Star Wars 55: Plif! constitutes the fifty-fifth installment of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series.

Synopsis

Leia Organa, holding the title of Princess, is in charge of a reconnaissance team dispatched to the forested planet called Arbra. Her objective is to establish a lasting operational center for the Rebel Alliance after the forced departure from their prior location on Hoth. Leia's team discovers the woods are inhabited by tiny, telepathic, rodent-like beings referred to as Hoojibs. Given that Hoojibs subsist on electricity, they are observed scurrying around the rebel camp during the night, siphoning the power from all the Rebels' gear and weaponry. The subsequent morning, Princess Leia meets a Hoojib by the name of Plif, who functions as the spokesmind for the entire Hoojib population. Plif elucidates that the Hoojibs flourish on electrical radiation, typically obtained from a cache of geothermal crystals situated within a nearby cave. However, they were recently compelled to vacate the cave due to the presence of a sizable, airborne creature identified as a Slivilith. Leia consents to assist Plif in expelling the Slivilith, thus enabling the Hoojibs to reclaim their sustenance and cease depleting the rebels' resources.

The Slivilith descends upon the survey camp, commencing an assault on the rebels. The officers are rendered virtually helpless because their blasters are devoid of charge. They drive the creature back toward its nesting cavern, fending it off with non-energy-based melee weapons such as lances and pole arms. Chewbacca, the Wookiee, is successful in seizing the Slivilith by its tentacles and slamming it onto the power rod crystals, resulting in its demise. Appreciative of their aid, Plif offers to share Arbra's environment with the Rebel Alliance. Leia then communicates to the fleet that they have identified a new permanent base for their operations.

In a parallel narrative, Luke Skywalker engages in a conversation with Lando Calrissian. Lando has been harboring concerns regarding the state of affairs in Cloud City on the planet Bespin since his voluntary relinquishment of his position as Baron Administrator. Utilizing the Millennium Falcon, Lando takes his leave from the fleet and makes his way back to Cloud City.
