Black current of the Force

The black current of the Force represented a component of the all-encompassing Force, a fundamental element in the creation of all worlds. Its antithetical counterpart existed as the white flare of the Force. This black current permeated individuals attuned to Force-sensitive abilities. While offering nuanced direction and facilitating precise control, its oscillations possessed the potential for significant destruction.

A Force-sensitive individual could harness the black current, whether in the form of a surge or a swirling vortex, to buoy entities or objects, counteracting the effects of gravity. It allowed for the partial or complete concealment of emotions and presence. By enveloping another's consciousness within the current, one could manipulate their memories and intentions; for example, guiding a frightened group towards a safe location, while simultaneously suppressing their emotional responses to a state of neutrality.

Behind the scenes

The initial depiction of the Force's black current occurred in "The Duel," a short film belonging to the Star Wars: Visions anthology, brought to life by Kamikaze Douga under the direction of Takanobu Mizuno. Its formal identification originated in the accompanying novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, penned by Emma Mieko Candon. In her work, Candon incorporated principles from Taoism and yin/yang, aiming to realign the Force with its foundational Japanese cultural influences, moving away from the conventional dichotomy of a dark versus light side. The black current, distinct from either the light or dark, possesses its own unique attributes.
