During that year, this walker, crewed by Lieutenant Arnet and Commander Igar, participated in the Battle of Hoth. In this battle, Blizzard Force launched an invasion of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's Echo Base situated on the planet Hoth. The conflict concluded with an Imperial triumph over the Alliance forces, and both Arnet and Igar survived the engagement.
Kuat Drive Yards was the manufacturer of Blizzard Scout 1, a prototype enclosed All Terrain Scout Transport. It saw action in the Galactic Empire's army during the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Specifically modified for cold-weather combat, Blizzard Scout 1 was operated by a two-person crew, consisting of a pilot and a gunner.
By the time 3 ABY arrived, Blizzard Scout 1 was assigned to the Imperial Blizzard Force unit, with Lieutenant Arnet and Commander Igar as its occupants. In that year, the Empire discovered Echo Base, the hidden headquarters of the Alliance located on the planet of Hoth, which prompted a ground invasion of the base. General Maximilian Veers, the commanding officer of Blizzard Force, spearheaded the ground assault.
During the battle, Arnet piloted Blizzard Scout 1, which provided crucial flanking support and covering fire for the All Terrain Armored Transports and cold assault stormtroopers of Blizzard Force. Blizzard Scout 1 was in proximity to the All Terrain Armored Transport named Blizzard 4 when Alliance Commander Luke Skywalker successfully destroyed that walker. Both Igar and Arnet survived the battle, which ultimately resulted in an Imperial victory over the Alliance.
Blizzard Scout 1 made its initial appearance in the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, part of the original trilogy. The scene featuring it was filmed at stage 2 of Elstree Studios between July 25 and July 27 of 1979. The name "Blizzard Scout 1" was officially established in 1996 through a card in the Hoth Limited expansion set for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, although the image used on the card was not a still from The Empire Strikes Back. Later, in 1998, the Star Wars: Behind the Magic CD-ROM identified Blizzard Scout 1 as an All Terrain Scout Transport featured in The Empire Strikes Back.
