Elstree Studios

Situated in Borehamwood, close to London, you'll find Elstree Studios. Up until the close of the 1980s, it boasted 6 expansive stages, all utilized by George Lucas during the filming of the original Star Wars trilogy. Stage 6, the most sizable, was purpose-built in 1979 for Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. This large studio complex accommodated a comprehensive film production unit, complete with costume, construction, and film-processing departments. Regrettably, a significant portion of the site, including Stage 6, was demolished and now serves as a supermarket location. Consequently, only a minimal amount of filming for the prequels took place at the Studio. Just a handful of supplementary shots for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith were completed there. Instead, Fox Studios, Sydney and Leavesden Studios became the preferred locations.

The studio is experiencing a revival, highlighted by the recent construction of the George Lucas Stage.
