Bloodfin

The Bloodfin, a customized Razalon FC-20 speeder bike, functioned as the personal speeder for Darth Maul. Echoing a tradition among his forerunners during the era of the New Sith Wars, its designation drew inspiration from an animal embodying the essence of a Sith Lord. Specifically, Maul named his speeder after a fierce aquatic hunter he had confronted in combat on an oceanic planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories.

Characteristics

Much like other swoop bikes, the Bloodfin was a compact repulsorlift vehicle propelled by a robust engine positioned at the rear. The engine configuration was engineered to deliver rapid acceleration to the rider, enabling it to attain peak velocity across open terrain in mere moments. Its architecture resulted in a notably low center of gravity, significantly enhancing its cornering capabilities while simultaneously presenting a minimal target profile to adversaries.

The vehicle lacked any armament, reflecting the Sith Lord's preference for employing the Bloodfin primarily for pursuit, engaging opponents directly upon overtaking them. The seat's curvature facilitated a swift dismount for Darth Maul, achieved by a simple forward lean, allowing him to immediately enter combat and surprise his enemy.

Furthermore, the Bloodfin incorporated an auto-brake mechanism that ensured a secure halt whenever the handlebars were released, preventing crashes or collapses following Maul's abrupt dismounts. Consistent with the Sith Lord's perception of shields and sensors as indicators of weakness, the vehicle was devoid of such systems.

An auto-piloting system was integrated into the Bloodfin, enabling Darth Maul to remotely operate the vehicle through his command of the Force powers. Additionally, he could exert control over the vehicle from distances of up to eight kilometers utilizing a comlink affixed to his wrist.

History

Apart from the Bloodfin, Darth Maul possessed multiple speeders, including a T-shaped variant destroyed in a duel against Master Anoon Bondara shortly before the Invasion of Naboo, as well as an assault speeder equipped with laser cannons and a personal deflector shield generator. During 32 BBY, Darth Maul deployed the Bloodfin in his pursuit of Padmé Amidala on Tatooine, engaging Master Qui-Gon Jinn. After dismounting, the speeder presumably stopped via its auto-brake system, subsequently being utilized by Maul for his return to his vessel, the Scimitar. Following Maul's presumed demise during the Battle of Naboo at the hands of Qui-Gon's Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Bloodfin, alongside his starship, was seized by Galactic Republic authorities, only to mysteriously vanish without a trace. During the Clone Wars, the Dark Jedi Garth Ezzar acquired a similarly designed speeder bike.

Behind the scenes

Bloodfin also served as the designation for a server—or "Galaxy"—within the Star Wars Galaxies game.
