Prior to what occurs in A New Hope, Darth Vader engaged the most skilled bounty hunter in the galaxy for a specific task: Boba Fett's assignment was to locate and give back to Vader one little box, with what's inside having the potential to alter the destiny of the entire galaxy. Given the significance of this particular assignment, Vader is unable to depend on just one person… and he also can't permit that person to survive afterward!
