Armor
A chart showcasing the armor of clone troopers alongside that of stormtroopers.
Protective gear, predominantly donned by combatants, was known as armor. Examples include Mandalorian armor, Sith battle suits, and lightweight battle suits. Generally, armor could deflect a standard blaster shot, but only heavily reinforced battle armor could withstand a heavy cannon blast. Armor could be penetrated by specialized weaponry known as disruptors. The term "armor" could also apply to the protective plating on a vehicle or starship.
General Information
Armor was generally categorized into three types: light armor, medium armor, and heavy armor. Woven fabrics or thin plastics typically made up light armor. The most prevalent type, medium armor, consisted of small metal or ceramic plates. Heavy armor, intended for frontline engagements, was usually fully sealed.
Across various cultures and species, armor was used in armed conflicts. Some armor was specially made with cortosis implants for fighting against lightsabers. Among the best in the galaxy was Mandalorian armor, particularly the Neo-Crusader armor used during the Mandalorian Wars.
Typically, armor was more constricting than regular clothing. This was why most Jedi avoided wearing it. However, their robes incorporated protective underlays. Armor also served to indicate rank or a soldier's specialization, as seen in the Grand Army of the Republic.
The Golan Arms DF.9 anti-infantry battery was protected by proton-shielded armor.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Yuuzhan Vong warriors wore Vonduun crab armor, a living bio-engineered armor created from Vonduun crabs.
