Vonduun Skerr Kyrric, more widely recognized as Vonduun crab armor (also known as Vonduun crabshell armor), represented a form of bioengineered armor comprised of crab-shell plating. It was utilized by the Warrior caste within the ranks of the Yuuzhan Vong. This armor was constructed using the living shell of the Vonduun crab.
The spear-shaped legs of the vonduun crab possessed exceptional sharpness, enabling their deployment as weapons. A particular set, referred to as "grip legs," occasionally latched onto the wearer's mouth corner, creating a sinister, skull-like grin. Vonduun crab armor exhibited crystalline traits, rendering it resistant to blasters, slugthrowers, and even lightsabers. Certain variations were known to enhance the wearer's physical strength, as demonstrated by the elderly former Warmaster Czulkang Lah and his aged vonduun crab armor.
The color of the armor could vary from one suit to another. While black was the most frequently observed hue, cerulean and red shades were also documented on multiple occasions.
The durability of Vonduun crab armor was exceptional, effectively stopping impacts from blasters, slugthrowers, and even lightsaber strikes. Its relatively light weight allowed most warriors to maintain agility and swift movement. The armor's spikes could also function as weapons in dire situations, provided they were employed skillfully.
The armor's protective capabilities were insufficient against the firepower of starfighters. Furthermore, it could not endure the crushing force exerted by Mandalorian crushgaunts, which were capable of fracturing and shattering the armor through sustained pressure. The creature's gills, located in the armpit area of the armored suit, represented a vulnerable point. In certain instances, the wearer's face remained exposed. Being a living organism, the armor was susceptible to biological vulnerabilities, notably a severe allergic reaction to Bafforr tree pollen, as discovered during the Battle of Garqi. Force lightning also possessed the capacity to destroy the armor.
While non-Yuuzhan Vong could potentially wear the armor, capturing it alive was a rare occurrence, as typically, subduing or eliminating the wearer necessitated inflicting damage or killing the armor itself. During the Battle of Borleias, Danni Quee along with Wraith Squadron members Baljos Arnjak and Bhindi Drayson donned captured, living vonduun crab armor. Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker, and other members of the group utilized inanimate synthetic vonduun crab armor constructed from plasteel.
By 40 ABY, modified iterations of this armor were being employed by the New Jedi Order in lightsaber dueling practice, owing to its ability to deflect lightsaber strikes. Apprentices, such as Ben Skywalker, would wear the armor to mitigate the risk of severe injuries during lightsaber training duels. During one such exercise, Luke Skywalker instructed Ben to remove the armor.
Darth Krayt, the Dark Lord of the One Sith, donned Vonduun crab armor following his escape from Vergere within the Unknown Regions. He continued to wear this armor until his demise in 137 ABY. Subsequent to Krayt's resurrection, his armor was destroyed by Darth Wyyrlok.
