Boss signified the head of the Gungan civilization. During the Invasion of Naboo, Rugor Nass held the position of Boss. Lyonie took over the role from him during the Clone Wars. The Boss possessed the authority to mobilize the Gungan Grand Army for combat or to exile disruptive individuals.
Beyond Gungan culture, the title was also used, frequently to indicate a leader, notably in certain commercial or illicit contexts. Xev Xrexus was addressed as the Boss-Mistress of the Xrexus Cartel in the final years of the Galactic Republic. A B1-series battle droid called Wat Tambor, a Separatist Councillor, by this title during the Battle of Ryloth.
