Bouncer (clone trooper)

Bouncer was the designation of a clone trooper stationed on the planet of Pastil in the year 22 BBY, during the period known as the Clone Wars. He belonged to the clone contingent assigned to the local tracking station, tasked with providing early warnings to the Galactic Republic regarding potential incursions from the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During a routine inspection of the Pastil station, Clone Commander CC-2224 and Clone Captain CT-7567 discovered a Confederate spy operating there, specifically an MSE-series droid known as "Rodent." Bouncer took part in the subsequent search operation for the droid, which ultimately resulted in its discovery and destruction.

Biography

The clone trooper known as Bouncer was one of many clones derived from the bounty hunter Jango Fett. Like his clone brothers, Bouncer was created on the planet of Kamino to serve within the ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic. Due to the escalating conflict of the galaxy-wide Clone Wars, Bouncer, like many rookie clones (referred to as shinies), was deployed into service by the Galactic Republic before completing his full training within the Army. Bouncer's assignment was to a remote tracking station situated on the planet Pastil. This listening post was responsible for monitoring enemy fleet movements and alerting the Republic Navy in case of an impending attack by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

The Pastil tracking station

An MSE-series droid was also present to assist the clones with the station's upkeep. The clone troopers had nicknamed the droid "Rodent", and it was known for its diligent cleaning of the station. Bouncer and the other clones noted the droid's almost excessive dedication to cleanliness, but they attributed it to a programming quirk. In 22 BBY, Clone Commander CC-2224 and Clone Captain CT-7567 conducted a routine inspection of the Pastil station. They were struck by the unusual cleanliness of the outpost, and Stripe, one of the clone troopers, informed them of Rodent's apparent obsession with tidiness.

Upon hearing this, the two inspectors came to the conclusion that the droid was actually a Confederate spy. The cleaning was merely a facade while the droid gathered Republic secrets during its time there. The senior clones initiated a Code Aurek alert and ordered the clone troopers to locate Rodent. During the search for the droid, Bouncer questioned whether the clone officers conducted random cleaning droid hunts during every inspection, a question that led to a reprimand from Stripe. When the clone troopers finally located Rodent, the droid attempted to flee, but Stripe destroyed it using a V-1 thermal detonator, which also damaged a portion of the station. CC-2224 and CT-7567 then departed Pastil, leaving Bouncer and the other shinies to clean up the resulting mess. With the destruction of Rodent, the Pastil outpost was able to continue its operations without further incident.

Personality and traits

When CC-2224 and CT-7567 issued the order to hunt down Rodent, Bouncer inquired whether the clone officers regularly searched stations for droids during inspections, a question that Stripe considered unintelligent. Like Jango Fett, his genetic source, Bouncer was 1.83 meters in height and possessed black hair and brown eyes.

Behind the scenes

Bouncer made an appearance in Mouse Hunt, a short webcomic penned by Pablo Hidalgo, illustrated by Tom Hodges, and published on StarWars.com. Mouse Hunt served as a prequel to "Rookies," an episode from the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series. While the name of the planet Bouncer served on was not explicitly stated in the comic itself, it was later identified as Pastil in the online episode guide for "Rookies."
