Bovark clan

title: Bovark Clan

The Bovark or Borvak clan represented a Nimbanese lineage. They functioned as key custodians of data for the Bureau of Ships and Services (BoSS) during the centuries preceding BBY. It's probable that Captain Mingo Bovark belonged to this very clan.

Regrettably, the Bovarks viewed bureaucratic processes as a field for intense competition. This competitive spirit aligned with Nimbanese societal norms, but the Bovarks amplified it with unusually aggressive behaviors, setting them apart from typical Nimbanels. Consequently, they clashed with rival BoSS data-holding clans, notably the Krovalis clan of Nimban.

Ultimately, the Bovarks overstepped their boundaries by issuing violent threats against a different BoSS clan. In response to this precarious situation, BoSS threatened to erase all existing starship data unless the Bovarks ceased their hostile actions. Confronted with the potential collapse of interstellar trade, a coalition of planetary administrations dispatched a fleet comprising over a thousand warships to the [Nimban system](/article/nimban_system]. This show of force compelled the Bovarks to retreat.

Following the resolution of the crisis, all other Nimbanese clans acting as data custodians were stripped of their roles, resulting in a significant setback for the Nimbanels. The Krovalis clan subsequently reapplied for a share of the responsibilities and succeeded with the endorsement of the Hutts.

Behind the scenes

Cracken's Field Guide uses the spelling Borvak for the clan name, while Galaxy Guide 12 employs the spelling Bovark. It is conceivable that the two publications are referencing distinct clans altogether.
