The original inhabitants of the planet Esfandia were the Brrbrlpp. Due to the difficulty offworlders had with their true name, they were commonly known as the Cold Ones. They communicated using a form of trinary transmitted via radio waves, a language taught to them by Commander Si of the Esfandia Long-Range Communications Base. As a species, the Brrbrlpp were very communicative, with their calls capable of traversing vast distances. Similar to numerous other sentient species, young Brrbrlpp were prone to risking their lives in pursuit of thrilling experiences.
Due to the limited capacity of Esfandia to sustain a large and diverse ecosystem, the Brrbrlpp population was never substantial. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, estimates placed their numbers at only a few thousand. On Esfandia, the Brrbrlpp cultivated expansive gardens and raised large quantities of flying insects, which they exchanged for trace minerals extracted from the atmosphere.
The Brrbrlpp possessed a unique biology, appearing as flower-shaped, amoeba-like sentient beings. They propelled themselves by undulating the outer edges of their bodies, enabling them to move with surprising speed when required. Their interior was adorned with a ring of photosensors, and they exhibited radial lines of cilia, semi-transparent flesh, and an intricate skeletal structure that maintained the rigidity of their "petals." Within their bodies, gently pulsating dark patches, possibly internal organs, were visible, along with a lengthy, whip-like tail. The females reproduced by laying eggs, which the males subsequently fertilized. The Brrbrlpp species typically bred in caves known as the Nesting Plains, which were situated deep underground, close to the warmth emanating from Esfandia's core.
