The Brrbrlpp of Esfandia utilized Trinary, a machine language. Si, a Gran commander at the Esfandia Long-Range Communications Base, introduced it to them before the Yuuzhan Vong War. He learned of their distinct culture while studying them during his downtime, which led him to teach them Trinary. To avoid unintentional deaths, the Brrbrlpp started using trinary to communicate with the base's crew, as it was simpler for the crew to grasp than their native tongue, ensuring the crew was always aware of their location and actions.
Sean Williams developed Trinary for the 2003 book The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic III: Reunion, co-written with Shane Dix. Williams expressed surprise that this language wasn't already part of Star Wars canon. He described it in an interview as being "like binary but with three digits instead of two."
