Massive cargo haulers represented a type of starship specialized for transport of extensive quantities of goods. Initially, the Confederacy of Independent Systems navy in its nascent stages was comprised of these bulk transports, previously utilized by its corporate members for intergalactic commerce across the galaxy. Nevertheless, as the Clone Wars progressed, entities such as Pammant Docks began producing dedicated capital ships in order to forge a more formidable naval force.
The initial reference to bulk transports within the updated Star Wars canon occurred within Rise of the Separatists. This was a 2019 addition to the Star Wars roleplaying game line by Fantasy Flight Games. These vessels were initially conceived for the Star Wars Legends timeline, debuting in Twin Stars of Kira, a 1993 sourcebook for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games.
