A user of the Force who succumbed to the dark side and became an unwilling servant of Exar Kun was known as the Caretaker of the Lost Souls.
Prior to her subjugation by Exar Kun, the Caretaker of Lost Souls was a student at Corellia University. It is believed she was part of an archeological dig on Yavin 4 around 1 ABY. This group unknowingly broke into the tombs beneath the Temple of Exar Kun, freeing the spirit of the Sith Lord. The malevolent spirit then dominated the students and researchers, forcing them into the Cult of Exar Kun. Subsequently, he dispatched them to Talus, to the Corellia University research outpost from which they originated, to enslave the inhabitants. Most of the enslaved were then transported back to Yavin 4. Professor Cornelius Wagglehorn, worried after losing contact with the outpost, hired spacers to investigate Talus.
Upon reaching the research outpost, the spacers discovered the situation and informed the professor. He directed them to the tomb, urging them to destroy the evil spirit. The Caretaker was the third major adversary the spacers encountered within the tomb, following their victories over the Open Hand of Hate and the Minder of Weak Wills. Upon noticing the group, the Caretaker sealed the chamber and unleashed her minions, in waves of three. During the fight, some of the Caretaker's prisoners, students not fully controlled by Exar Kun, aided in weakening her, forcing her to intervene directly. She enveloped the room in a dense green fog and began striking the spacers with bolts of force lightning from the center, while protecting herself from close combat. After a prolonged and difficult battle, with the spacers struggling to escape the fog and defeat the woman electrocuting them, the spacers prevailed over the Caretaker's body, freeing her spirit from Kun's control. The spacers then proceeded through the tomb, eventually facing the Clenched Fist of Hate.
The Caretaker of the Lost Souls appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This massively multiplayer online roleplaying game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts before it closed on December 15, 2011. The Caretaker of the Lost Souls was introduced as part of the "Exar Kun" Heroic Encounter, which arrived with the "Chapter 9" update on April 3, 2008.
Within the Temple of Exar Kun, the Caretaker of the Lost Souls served as a "boss" enemy NPC. She was the third challenge in the instance, appearing after the Open Hand of Hate and the Minder of Weak Wills.
