The Caridan species, hailing from Carida, were mammals. Because of the high gravitational forces on their homeworld, typical Caridans grew to heights exceeding two meters and developed substantial muscle mass. Their native language was Caridan, but the majority also communicated in Basic. Caridan society revolved around a commercial system, with an active market and industrial companies owned by Caridans at its core. Indeed, the Caridans gained significant recognition for their abilities in valuation and trade. The Caridans worked alongside both the Galactic Republic and, subsequently, the Galactic Empire in running the Academy of Carida. Despite the Empire's xenophobia, Caridans outside the Imperial installation were mostly unaffected, although unease increased following the Battle of Yavin. The destruction of Carida by Kyp Durron resulted in the disappearance of numerous Caridans from the galactic stage. The Caridans who managed to survive were those who were traders located off-world, agents of the New Republic, or individuals living on the fringes of society. A well-known Caridan was Furgan, the Imperial Ambassador from Carida.
