The caves known as the Caves of Thunder existed on the Forest Moon of Endor. In the year 3 ABY, the Ewok named Wicket Wystri Warrick made his way back to Bright Tree Village from a remote area of the forest; during this journey, he came across a wild Ewok with red fur. Warrick shared this information with his companion, Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka, who thought that the untamed Ewok could be Asha, her sibling who had been missing for a long time. Kintaka then asked Warrick for directions to find her. Warrick explained that using a glider, the route involved flying east for half a day's journey, then turning south at the Caves of Thunder, followed by another turn to the east. Because his directions were not precise, Warrick chose to go with Kintaka.
The animated television show Ewoks first referenced the Caves of Thunder in the "Asha" episode, which was the thirteenth episode of the series. Paul Dini penned the episode, which debuted on November 30, 1985.
