The Caviness Thorn group functioned as a bounty hunting team during the rule of the Galactic Empire. In approximately 5 BBY, the team accepted a bounty targeting a smuggler, which led them to journey to the world of Abregado-Rae with the objective to eliminate their mark. While situated on Abregado-Rae, Thorn permitted Beilert Valance, a cyborg bounty hunter, to become a temporary member of the group for this specific task, as they needed an extra gun. As the crew advanced toward the Abregado-Rae Spaceport, the location of their target, and prepared for the hit, Valance discovered the target's identity: his former comrade, Han Solo. Valance then tried to prevent Thorn from assassinating Solo. The resulting conflict led to the deaths of the crew's other two members, leaving Thorn to pursue the bounty independently. However, Valance intervened once more. Soon after, Solo departed from the spaceport on the Millennium Falcon.
